Welcome to the RCS Active Singer Registration!
Rockingham Choral Society (RCS) is thrilled to welcome you to our NEW Singer Community hosted by Choir Genius!
Whether you’re joining us for the first time or returning for another exciting season, this registration will guide you through everything you need to get started. By completing your registration, you’ll become part of our RCS Active Singer Community.
How It Works:
- New Singers: please fill out the basics so we can be ready for you when you come to our first rehearsal.
- Returning Singers: make sure your profile and details are complete and current. We ask all singers & community members to provide any choral experience, (although not required) how you heard about RCS, and skills & talents - this info can help us apply for grant funding and build community
- What You’ll Need: basic contact & background information
- No one is turned away for financial reasons – scholarships and assistance available & confidential; contact the Chorus president at [email protected] before or after registering.
After You Register in Choir Genius: What’s next?
- Your information will be sent to our membership chairperson who may contact you if they have any questions. Your account will be set to “applicant” status until you audition at one of our “open” rehearsals. The first two rehearsals of each semester are open to anyone who thinks they may wish to join our choral family. Should you decide to join RCS, you can sign up for an audition with our Director. The audition will take only about 5-10 minutes and consists of singing some harmony, scales, and pitch matching. This will help him to place you in correct SATB section and provide a chance for you to get to know each other.
- Once you pass the audition, you will be changed to “member” status giving you full access to all the tools and features of Choir Genius including; weekly email reminders, choral learning tracks, calendar of events, and much more to make your choral life with RCS easy to manage.
Singer Expectations:
- Review RCS weekly emails for new information or important updates (sent on FRIDAYS)
- Attend rehearsals & performances as scheduled
- RSVP in Choir Genius and communicate promptly with Section Leaders if you must be absent
- Stay performance-ready by maintaining good attendance. If you miss more than two rehearsals for any concert, your Section Leader and the Artistic Director will meet with you to make sure you are up to speed and prepared for the concerts.
- Purchase required music or wardrobe: please be aware that our concert dress is generally black sleeved long to the floor dresses/flowy pants or a black suit/white shirt/provided tie. So you may find it necessary to acquire one of those options if you don’t have it currently.
- Dues and music fees; Our Dues are 50.00 per semester payable by the third rehearsal for returning members and 4th rehearsal for new members you will also be expected to purchase the music we provide which usually runs about 25.00+/- however…. No one is turned away for financial reasons – scholarships and assistance available & confidential; contact the Chorus president at [email protected] before or after registering.
Beyond the Music – Get Involved!
RCS is powered by the talents of its members both on stage and off. If you have skills in event planning, hospitality, marketing, photography, administration, fundraising, or other areas, we’d love to know! You’ll have a chance to share these with us during your registration. Other perks of RCS Membership include:
β¨ Grow Musically – through vocal workshops, rehearsals, sectionals, and artistic coaching
π Community Outreach – Participate in unique outreach projects that connect music to the heart of NH seacoast.
β¨ RCS Chamber Choir and Solo Opportunities – Audition for a smaller ensemble to perform additional outreach and perform Major Choral works. It is the POLICY of RCS to ONLY use soloists from our membership and NOT hire ringers. This is a Community choir and should reflect the community. We are the only large area choral group to give regular nonprofessional singers the opportunity to be able to live their dream of singing a solo in a concert setting with a live orchestra whether it’s a masterwork from Mozart or Bach or a modern composition. We have done them all.
π Group Special Events maybe you might be interested in travelling and singing in a festival in Europe, or sitting through a masterclass from a world famous accapella vocal group, we are planning it!
π€ Social Gatherings – once each semester we take half a rehearsal and just spend some time getting to know our fellow choristers better with snacks and good conversation. If you think you have a friend who might want to join in the future, bring them to experience a bit of rehearsal and a lot of friendship
We can’t wait to make music and share community with you! πΆβ¨Please make sure to like or subscribe to RCS’s Facebook and instagram accounts!
